Twas the Night Before the Big Deal

December 12, 2025

‘Twas the night before a proposal, when all through the office,

Not a team member was stirring, except for Bryan Ryberg in a crisis.

He had a prospective client waiting in the queue, but he was worried he couldn’t secure them and knew not what to do.

He pondered and pondered how to close this new deal, hoping to go home to his family to join the Christmas cheer.

With the moon rising above the mountain and the sun setting in the west,

Bryan was so tired, his head hit the desk.

Suddenly, his office door flew open with a crash, and in came Jolly Bruce Saint Bryan like the ghost of marketing past!

“Wake up young Ryberg! We have a deal to close, so you can be rested for your presentation and get home!”

“But I can’t, Bruce Saint Bryan. I want to strengthen my presentation’s appeal.

I believe I took all the right steps of the marketing sales plan to secure this deal.”

“Relax young Ryberg; I’m sure you took all the right steps,

but let’s walk through the dos and don'ts to avoid any regret.”

DONTs

“Don’t push your prospective clients into something they may not want; you don’t want to make a fuss about services causing your client not to trust.”

“I promise I only advised what they might need, wise one, advising any more would be cruel.”

“That’s great, young Ryberg, but remember this next rule!

Don’t make an ask or request at the first meeting. This makes you seem needy.”

“Of course, Jolly Bruce Saint Bryan, I don’t want them to think we are greedy!”

“That’s right! And, lastly, don’t rush your client, they are making an important decision!”

Bryan Ryberg exclaimed, “Oh, of course, I don't want to put our prospective client in a hard position!”

DOs

“Hmm... It seems that you have completed the right steps, young Ryberg, now let’s think of a different angle.

Did you send a recap or next steps email to help your prospective client get a handle?”

“I sure did, Jolly Bruce Saint Bryan. The recap emails kept us all afloat.”

“That’s great, young Ryberg! But after you met them, did you send them a handwritten note?”

“I did! I did! I made time to provide some handwritten scrawl. I try to be personable with every sales call.”

“Lastly, young Ryberg, you must act confident! But I can see how you’ve led your client; I would say that you are quite marketing-sales competent.”

“I try my best, Jolly Bruce Saint Bryan, and I want to close this deal,

but I am only human, and I don’t know if I can pull off the same presentation spiel?”

“THAT’S IT, YOUNG RYBERG! You’re a genius, I reckon.

When you give your final proposal, keep in mind you’re a person first and a salesman second.”

“You’re right, jolly one! That’s how I can seal this lead!

I will make sure I am personable and if they retreat, I’ll let them know that we are here whenever they need!”

“HUZZAH, young Ryberg, you’ve got this in the bag!

Now run home to your family! Go on now, don’t lag.”

Bryan woke up and rushed home before it got too dark.

The next day, he gave his final pitch and knocked it out of the park!

Jolly Bruce Saint Bryan hopes you enjoyed this marketing tale,

but Saint Bryan also has sales to make, so he must bail.
